Situated Computing and Interaction Lab

The overall goal of the Situated Computing and Interaction Lab (located in room: 245) is to contribute towards a more liveable, inclusive and sustainable future using geospatial technologies. By developing new methods and technologies that make use of spatial and temporal concepts, we aim to empower people in several ways. We want to enable them to participate in societal processes, to easily solve tasks related to space/time, to reduce their ecological footprint, and to do so in an informed and safe way. Our research thus contributes to Geoinformatics, Human-Computer Interaction (HCI), and mobile and ubiquitous computing. Applying human-centered design (HCD) approaches, we develop new methods to design, prototype and evaluate situated technology aimed at supporting human users. Key challenges we are working on include: providing a diverse audience with means to understand complex geospatial phenomena; using spatial concepts effectively; and designing user-friendly and context-aware location-based services.
